Maintaining Workers’ Mental and Physical Balance: PRPP’s Approach to Accelerating the Execution of the GRR Tuban Project

Maintaining Workers’ Mental and Physical Balance: PRPP’s Approach to Accelerating the Execution of the GRR Tuban Project

Jakarta, February 21, 2025 – In recent years, mental health issues have become a serious concern for many parties. According to a survey conducted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) between 2020 and 2022, 63% of workers experienced mental health disorders related to workplace issues. These mental health disorders must be addressed seriously, as they can negatively impact companies by reducing worker productivity, which in turn affects business performance. On the workers’ side, mental health problems also influence their personal lives.

This issue was also highlighted by the Ministry of Health, which, during the commemoration of World Mental Health Day 2024 on October 10, 2024, raised the theme "It's Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace."

In line with this, to conclude the 2025 Occupational Safety and Health (K3) Month commemoration, PRPP organized a seminar titled "Health Talk: Achieving Work-Life Balance" at the PRPP office in Sopo Del Office Tower, Jakarta, on Friday (21/02/2025).

Sigit Pudyoko, Vice President of HSSE Portfolio & New Business at PT Pertamina (Persero), who was appointed to open the event, stated in his speech that there are many ways workers can improve their mental health quality to achieve work-life balance.

"To maintain workers’ mental well-being, we can learn from various sources. Even seemingly simple things, such as applying the 5S principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) in the office, have been proven to increase productivity and employee happiness," Sigit began.

He further explained that since PRPP's current core activities are mostly office-based, the company recognizes the importance of emphasizing mental health for employees as part of its preparation for executing the GRR Tuban Project.

"During many occasions, especially during the National K3 Month commemoration, we often discuss safety. However, we sometimes overlook health aspects, including mental health at work. Since PRPP is still primarily focused on office work, we consider it crucial to pay attention to work-life balance. This way, employees can maintain a balanced life—not only excelling at work but also in their personal lives," he concluded.

Efnie Indrianie, a biopsychology practitioner and speaker at the event, emphasized the importance of maintaining mental energy, as it plays a crucial role in sustaining workplace productivity while also supporting employees’ personal lives. She also highlighted that one key factor in preserving mental energy is maintaining physical health, as good physical health directly correlates with better mental well-being.

In a separate interview, Reizaldi Gustino, President Director of PRPP, reaffirmed PRPP’s commitment to ensuring workplace safety and occupational health.

"A safety culture does not appear overnight; it must be built continuously. Therefore, even though PRPP is still in the development phase, we are making every effort to implement and internalize this safety culture among our employees. Especially in this critical phase, as we work towards obtaining the Final Investment Decision (FID), which requires both physical and mental resilience, we expect all employees to maintain their physical and mental health to ensure sustained productivity," said Reizaldi.

In addition to Efnie Indrianie, M.Psi, other speakers included Dr. Iwan Rivai, Sp.Ok, an occupational medicine specialist, and Dr. Maryam, Sp.GK, a nutrition specialist.

As part of the 2025 National K3 Month celebration, PRPP organized several activities, including K3-related webinars, safety quizzes, and various competitions such as safety observation challenges and safety talks. PRPP’s commitment to implementing occupational safety and health standards has been recognized, earning the Patra Nirbhaya Pratama oil and gas safety award from the Directorate General of Oil and Gas, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Indonesia, in two consecutive period 2023 and 2024.
