Reaching 1 Million Working Hours, GRR Tuban Refinery Project Prints 'Zero Accident'
Tuban, August 20th, 2021 —The National Strategic Project of Tuban Grass Root Refinery (GRR) has successfully realized its commitment to maintain a zero accident rate, even though it has reached a period of 1 million working hours. The zero accident record is based on data as of July 2021, where PT Pertamina Rosneft Pengolahan dan Pentrokimia (Pertamina Rosneft) as the project implementer carries out the preconstruction process including land procurement, land clearing, and front-end engineering design (FEED).
"GRR Tuban project has now reached 1 million working hours without work accidents. We calculated this achievement from 13th March 2019 to July 2021. The number of safe working hours as of August 2021 reached 1,045,946 working hours", said Kadek Ambara Jaya, President Director of Pertamina Rosneft.
In accordance with the 2003 Labor Laws, every worker is entitled to protection of occupational safety and health. Law Number 1 of 1970 concerning Occupational Safety (Occupational Safety Law) regulates the basic principles of implementing occupational safety that must be implemented by the company.
The Occupational Safety Law requires employers to establish an occupational safety and health management system that is in accordance with standards if they have 100 or more employees engaged in high-risk work/activities. Currently, the workers of the Tuban GRR project reach 369 including Pertamina Rosneft workers, Pertamina GRR Tuban, and contractors.
In order to ensure an integrated occupational health and safety system in the company's management system, Pertamina Group including Pertamina Rosneft and Pertamina GRR Tuban always provide the necessary instructions, training, and supervision to ensure the occupational health and safety of Pertamina Rosneft Officers.
On the same occasion, Kadek gave the greatest appreciation to all elements of the company, both Pertamina Rosneft workers, GRR Tuban, and company contractors who worked together to roll out the national strategic project while remaining disciplined in maintaining the principles of Occupational Safety and Health (K3).
"Thanks to the role of Pertamina Rosneft and Pertamina GRR Tuban Officers who always apply the principles of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) during their duties, so that we can achieve this achievement. We will continue to strive to maintain and improve positive performance in various stages of the construction of GRR Tuban Project", concluded Kadek.
Pertamina Rosneft is a joint venture between state-owned energy company PT Pertamina (Persero) and Russian energy company Rosneft Oil Company. The Company received a state mandate to build the GRR Tuban refinery which will become the largest petrochemical facility in Southeast Asia. The refinery is targeted to be operational by 2024 and absorb approximately 27,000 workers at the time of construction, as well as 2,500 workers after the project is operational.
