Encourage Employees to Deliver HSE Presentations in English, Achieving Over 4.5 Million Safe Work Hours for PRPP
Jakarta, October 8, 2024 – It is undeniable that health, safety, and environmental (HSE) risks in the oil and gas industry are categorized as high-risk. This is due to the complex processes and activities in the industry, including the use of hazardous chemicals, heavy machinery, and high-pressure pipelines. As a company entrusted to manage the Grass Root Refinery (GRR) Tuban Project, including future operations, PRPP is committed to implementing occupational health and safety principles starting from the development phase.
This commitment has received positive recognition from relevant stakeholders. On Monday evening (7/10/2024), PRPP was awarded the Patra Nirbhaya Karya Pratama by the Directorate General of Oil and Gas, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The award ceremony, held at the JS Luwansa Hotel Ballroom in Jakarta, saw PRPP’s President Director, Reizaldi Gustino, also the company’s Head of Technical Operations, receive the award from Erika Retnowati, Head of BPH Migas.
The Patra Nirbhaya Pratama award is given to companies achieving over 3 million safe work hours. From March 13, 2019, to April 30, 2024, PRPP recorded more than 4.52 million safe work hours without a loss-time injury.
PRPP’s President Director, Reizaldi Gustino, expressed pride in receiving this award.
“Alhamdulillah, all praise to Allah SWT for this award. This recognition boosts our spirit as we enter the crucial phase of preparing for the final investment decision that will determine the execution of the Tuban GRR Project,” Reizaldi said.
Reizaldi emphasized PRPP’s unwavering commitment to consistently applying HSE principles in all company activities.
“Building a strong HSE culture is no easy task; it requires continuous effort and a significant amount of time. Since the start of the project, we’ve aimed to apply these principles as the project becomes increasingly complex, particularly in the EPC phase, with greater associated risks. Therefore, it requires the consistent hard work of all PRPP personnel and elements of the GRR Tuban Project to ensure effective implementation of HSE aspects,” he concluded.
Echoing Reizaldi’s statement, Sigit Pudyoko, Sr. Manager Project HSSE, detailed PRPP’s programs to enhance HSE implementation quality. These include weekly safety knowledge-sharing sessions, emergency response training, defensive driving training for company drivers, a safety leadership program, and a contractor safety management system.
“In addition, we initiated the PEKA Program (Work Safety Observation), encouraging all employees to be aware of unsafe behaviors or conditions around them. Any behavior or condition observed is reported through the PEKA system. Since 2019, 7,139 reports have been submitted and followed up on. PEKA serves as an early warning system to prevent more severe workplace accidents,” explained Sigit.
Sigit also shared PRPP’s unique initiative called I Like Monday Safety Moment, where employees take turns delivering presentations or safety awareness sessions to all staff and management every Monday.
“The topics focus on HSE, and since we have expatriate employees, presentations must be in English. Whether the English is fluent or not, the key is participation. Every Monday morning, those assigned to present are visibly nervous, but this approach is designed to inspire employees to remain aware and consistently implement HSE principles,” Sigit concluded.
This Patra Nirbhaya Pratama award is the second accolade received by PRPP, following a similar award in 2023. PRPP is currently in the development phase in preparation for constructing the Tuban GRR. The refinery will cover approximately 840 hectares in Jenu Subdistrict, Tuban Regency, with a projected crude oil processing capacity of 300,000 barrels per day. It aims to produce high-quality Euro V fuel and petrochemical products such as polyolefins and aromatics. *
